MARCOS, MARCOS PA RIN!

Despite many bad things written about him, he's still my idol, Happy Birthday Apo Makoy)

Ferdinand Emmanuel Edralín Marcos (September 11, 1917 – September 28, 1989) was President of the Philippines from 1965 to 1986. He was a lawyer, member of the Philippine House of Representatives (1949-1959) and a member of the Philippine Senate (1959-1965). During World War II he claimed to be the leader of Ang Maharlika, a guerrilla force in northern Luzon. In 1963 he became Senate President. As Philippine president and strongman, his greatest achievement was in the fields of infrastructure development and international diplomacy.

Even so, according to a recent survey, some Filipinos prefer Marcos' rule due to the shape of the country in administrations succeeding his. Many admire his autocratic, strong-arm rule, saying that his style of leadership is sorely missed and needed in the post-EDSA Philippines where too much democracy has ruined the body politic, with fractious standoffs in Congress, endless so-called "People Power" demonstrations, deadlocks in the Senate and movie actors as well as traditional politicians being elected into public office, as well as uneducated masses being easily manipulated to vote for famous individuals or corrupt patronage candidates. A few are nostalgic for the Marcos era, where the government was well-organized and laws were strictly followed by civilians, leading to a relatively disciplined populace.

lei,

After witnessing two decades of post Marcos-era, the debate isn't about Marcos, if he was better or worse. It is about whether or not Pinas would be better off with a dictatorship rule than a democracy.

bw,

Marcos was one of the best minds our country has ever produced. No doubt about that. As a result, he was able to attract some of the best minds of their generation of Filipinos such as Virata, Roberto Ongpin, and Geronimo Velasco to name a few. I don't know if succeeding administrations have been able to match the Marcos Cabinet in terms of intellect.

panadero,
You are right bro, When Cory government launched "dimarcosification" a termed they used to erased and destroy all the good memories left by Marcos. For years they bombarded and brainwashed the whole nation that Marcos is an evil man. And after several days those project of Marcos like the Manila International Airport was named after Ninoy and declared him as national hero. What happened to Marcos, he died a lonely man, a man who served the country for 20 years.

When Marcos proclaimed martial law, I so wanted him to succeed. I believed that he'd make the country great again. I thought that -- the srrongman rule -- was what our troubled country needed. But ...
